Things you need to know before studying and taking the test

Overview

- IELTS Speaking: a face to face informal test with an examiner which lasts between 11 and 11 mins and is made up of 3 parts. 
- IELTS Listening - a 30 minute audio recording with 10 questions.
- IELTS Reading 3 reading passages with 40 questions which lasts for 1 hour. 
- IELTS Writing – this is divided into task 1 and task 2. Task 1 is a short report of a chart, graph, map table etc; Task 2 is a formal essay. IELTS writing lasts for 1 hour in total.

How IELTS score is calculated?

- If your overall score is 6.1, your score will go down to 6. 6.1 is closer to band 6 than to 6.5.
- If your overall score is calculated to be 6.85, your final result will be band 7. Because 6.85 is closer to band 7 than to band 6.5.
- If your overall score is an average of 6.25, your score will be increased to 6.5.  IELTS will push it up lo the nearest score which is 6.5.
- If your overall score is an average of 6.75, your score will be increased to 7.

Computer IELTS

Pros

- Easy to write/type your answers if you are good at typing

- Screens provided are a good size which is useful for reading

- Less crowded – fewer people take it at one time 

- Quick results (one candidate got his results in 5 days)

- Slot availability

Cons

- You need to be very good at typing If you are not a good typist, you should consider the paper based lest instead.

- Screens will get locked exactly at the mentioned lime so we will not be able to make any last minute changes. The timer will not display seconds in the last one minute so you don't know when the screen will get locked

Having Realistic Goals 

- Decide which band score you want " get your English level assessed - check that your level of English is enough for the band score you want - if your level is too low, you must work to improve it "

- Develop your IELTS skills - make sure you have enough time to get the right level of English and strong exam skills
